Where we work in the city
Restoration Pros 360 grew up in the 89085 corner of North Las Vegas, and the whole city is in our service area. That runs from the master planned northwest around Aliante and Sun City Aliante, through Eldorado and Valley Vista, up to the new homes at the Villages at Tule Springs, and down to the older streets around Craig Ranch Regional Park, Cheyenne Avenue and Lake Mead Boulevard.
Getting around is mostly I-15 and the north side of the 215 beltway. The beltway enters the city at Decatur and has exits at Aliante Parkway, Revere, North 5th, Losee, Pecos, Lamb and Centennial Parkway before it ends at I-15. Craig Road and Cheyenne Avenue carry most of the east and west traffic.
The ground under North Las Vegas
This part of the valley has a real history of ground movement. Groundwater pumping caused land to sink and earth cracks to open. Areas near North Las Vegas Airport sank up to 2.6 feet from 1963 to 1980, and a fault in the city moved 1.3 feet from 1978 to 1985, per 1989 state geology data. Closer to now, a 2018 engineering report flagged expansive clay near Cheyenne Avenue and Simmons Street, and the advice that came with it was to keep water away from the clay.
What that means for a leak is simple. Water under or beside a slab here is not just a flooring problem. Get slab leaks found and fixed fast, keep irrigation off the foundation, and make sure monsoon water drains away from the house.
Hard water and the parts it wears out
North Las Vegas Utilities (system NV0000175) serves about 376,515 people with Lake Mead water treated at Southern Nevada Water Authority plants plus city wells. The city's own report calls the water hard from calcium and magnesium, a cleaning issue rather than a health risk. Mineral build up is hard on water heaters, valves and the small supply lines under sinks and toilets. InterNACHI puts a tank water heater's life at 6 to 12 years. If yours is near the end of that and sits in a garage closet next to drywall, it is worth a look before it decides for you.
Heat, freeze nights and storms
The North Las Vegas NOAA station averages 85 days a year at 100 degrees or more and about 4.27 inches of rain. It also averages 18 nights at or below freezing, with a median first freeze around December 8 and last around February 1. That one surprises people. Exposed hose bibs and lines in unheated garages can and do freeze here.
Then there is the monsoon. The Regional Flood Control District names July through September as the months for sudden downpours and flash floods, even on sunny days. North Las Vegas is inside the District, and its basins and channels do most of the work. Door thresholds and low garages still take on water in a hard storm.
