An established neighborhood
Eldorado is one of the older master planned communities in North Las Vegas, with settled homes on mature streets in the middle of the city. Older does not mean bad. It does mean a lot of homes with original valves, original water heaters or ones that are on their second round, and slab lines that have carried hard water for a long time.
Being central helps us. Craig Road and Cheyenne Avenue run east and west, and I-15 exits at Craig Road and Cheyenne Avenue are close by.
The leaks we see in older homes
- Slab leaks on hot water lines, showing as warm spots on tile.
- Angle stops under sinks and toilets that weep at the stem.
- Shower pans that leak into the wall or the room next door.
- Water heater tanks that rust through at the bottom.
Each one is slow until it is not. A musty smell, a swelling base or a meter that moves with water off are the signs to act on.
Ground and foundations
Central North Las Vegas is close to the area near Cheyenne Avenue and Simmons Street where a 2018 report flagged expansive clay, and close to the parts of the valley that sank from groundwater pumping decades ago. If your home has cracks that have grown, keep irrigation off the foundation and get slab leaks fixed fast. Water under a slab on clay is the combination to avoid.
Updating while you rebuild
If walls or floors are open after a leak, it is a good time to replace old supply lines and stops while they are easy to reach. Ask your plumber. It costs far less to swap them with the wall open than after it is closed and painted.
